Casa Fernandez Cigars have been some of our more popular boutique brands. Previously rolled at the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras, production of the Casa Fernandez core line was moved to south Florida in 2011. Although the name changed to Casa Fernandez Miami, the blend has not changed and is still made with the same Cuban-seed Nicaraguan tobacco sourced from their Aganorsa S.A. factory. The CF Miami Toro was highly rated by Cigar Aficionado with 92-points and was published in early 2012 as a CA Top 25 Cigar of the Year at #12!
The Casa Fernandez Reserva cigars, also hand-rolled in Miami, include a very rare four-year old Nicaraguan “medio tiempo” tobacco and is a great smoke. Another highly-rated cigar is the Casa Fernandez “Aganorsa Leaf”. With a 2006 Corojo wrapper with 100% Nicaraguan tobacco from Aganorsa, this smoke was awarded 90-points by CA.
And, saving the biggest size for the last mention, the JFR line, a Nicaraguan puro, also rolled in Honduras. Introduced in 2005 then nationally in 2007, the JFR 770, was groundbreaking when 7×70’s were not as popular as they are today. One legend has it that these cigars were Don Pepín García‘s first creation after leaving Cuba but before starting his own company. Is that true? Maybe not, but here is a little known fact: José “Don Pepín” García worked for Tabacalera Tropical (also now known as Casa Fernandez)!
